The Los Angeles Lakers played the Charlotte Bobcats last night in San Diego and nobody cared. The Lakers were the team in the NBA finals last season and picked by many "Experts" to take another trip there this year, and no one cared in San Diego. The Lakers have the reigning MVP of the league and no one cared. From the reports I read there were 850 people in attendance at the iPayone center last night. The only story in today's paper was about was about former San Diego Highschooler, Jared Dudley. I hope his family and friends read this because it is more press for their boy. But he wasn't the story.
Its no wonder San Diego is a terrible sports town. Granted it was pre season, but it just might have been the only time you could see the Lakers this year. I am a Sports fan, a Laker fan and I didn't even know about the game. Again San Diego is a terrible sports town. No advertisement, no hype, no buzz on the airwaves. But in a place where the weather is nice, the surf is breaking and everyone is mellow-there's no wonder no one cares. But Dammit I care. This may be the birth of my own campaign to stir the sleepy San Diego consciousness. Likely tomorrow I'll start.
